Cougar Softball Takes Two To Begin Season

San Marcos, Texas - Against the Ducks of Oregon, Houston scored their first two batters Leslie Seay and Riane Netardous on a single by Ray Ferreris to take the lead and eventually the game 2-0. Batters contributing to the Cougar offense were, Ali McDougal had a single in one of her three at bats, Seay, Netardus, Ferreris, and Candis Turnbo also went 1-3, and Jeanie Davis had the game's lone double.
Jenny Johnson pitched a solid game for the Cougars and took the win to start the season 1-0, the Cougar's season record also 1-0.
In the second game of the day at the B&G Southwest Texas Tournament, the Cougars beat the Islanders of Corpus Christi. Houston scored one run in the top of the second inning when Freshman Kristen Glowacz and senior Melissa Lynch put up back-to-back doubles to score Glowacz.
In the third inning the Cougar went on a five run streak. Seay and Netardus singled, Seay was moved home by McDougal and Ferreris and a home run by Kim Cote scored the next two runs. Jeanie Davis put herself on base with a double and was then driven in by Glowacz. The score at the end of three, (6-0).
To finish the game on a strong note, Davis scored Ferreris from second with a double making the final score 7-0.
Outstanding performances by Cougar hitters: Freshman Kristen Glowacz went three-for-four with two doubles, a homerun and 2 RBI. Davis had two doubles and a walk in her three at bats and Netardus added two hits to help the Cougars take their second win of the day.
The winning pitcher against the Islanders of Texas A&M Corpus Christi was Jamie Falco. Her record is now 1-0. Houston finishes the game with seven runs, ten hits, and one error. The Cougars finish the day with an overall record of 2-0.
