Preview the Lady Cougars in Last Exhibition of 2002

HOUSTON - The Lady Cougar basketball team will host the Houston Flight in an exhibition contest at Hofheinz Pavilion Friday at 7 p.m. The match-up will be Houston's last preseason game before it commences the regular season Nov. 22 against Ball State at the Indiana Tournament.
Shondra Bush scored 18 points and All-American Chandi Jones added 17 as the University of Houston women's basketball squad defeated the Houston Jaguars in a exhibition season-opener at Hofheinz Monday night.
Lady Cougars Nakia Homes (6-1, F) and Angela Curl (6-0, G/F) each added 10 points, with six other players adding points in the win. Nicole Oliver (5-10, G/F), who was named 2002 Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year, led the team in rebounds (nine) and added nine points in the winning effort.
The Cougars kept up with the very physical Jaguar team and went into halftime leading by 21 despite committing 12 turnovers. The Cougars outshot the Jaguars 50 to 29 percent from the floor in the first half and were 8-10 from the free throw line.
The Cougars were 4-5 from behind the arc in the second half and shot just 57.1 percent from the free throw line. Despite 30 total turnovers, the Lady Cougars prevailed 88-64 and are now 5-0 in exhibition games in the last three seasons.
Action will return to Hofheinz when the Lady Cougars host the 2002 Houston Classic Nov. 27-30. Houston will battle Mississippi State Nov. 27 at 5:30 p.m. and Northern Iowa Nov. 29 at 7 p.m.
