Two days after an extremely physical league clash with TCU, the University of Houston Cougars returned to the practice fields for a light workout in preparation for their Saturday contest at UAB.
UH heads to Alabama at 2-3 overall and 0-2 in Conference USA action, while the Blazers sport an identical 2-3 overall mark, but own a 1-0 record in conference play. The Blazers had an extra week to savor their 31-17 victory over Memphis back on September 28.
UH head coach Dana Dimel had his troops review the TCU game film while studying UAB tape later in the afternoon. With a few players still nursing some injuries, Dimel just had his team go through a very light walk through on the infield of the Carl Lewis International Track and Field Complex.
"I felt the players needed an extra day of rest," said Dimel. "We had an extremely physical, hard-fought game against TCU. I was pleased with our effort but not with the results.
"We really have to concentrate this week against a very good UAB team. We cannot afford any mistakes or turnovers, which have hurt us all season."
The Cougars will return to a full afternoon of practice tomorrow on the UH practice fields. Dimel also will host his weekly press luncheon earlier in the day.
