The UNLV women's soccer team claimed its fifth shutout of the season in a 2-0 win over the University of Houston women's soccer team on Saturday night (Oct. 6) at Peter Johann Memorial Field in Las Vegas, Nev.
The game would be decided in the second half of play, after a scoreless first half by both teams.
In the 55th minute, sophomore Annii Magliulo sent a left side cross shot into the goal box with senior co-captain Cosette Packer executing a header into the back of the net past Houston goalie Erin Ferguson for the 1-0 lead.
Then just two minutes later, Magliulo found a breakaway goal up the middle for her third-point of the match to put the Rebels on top, 2-0.
UNLV freshman goalkeeper Jenna Huff earned her third shutout of the year with two saves, while Houston goalkeeper Erin Ferguson had five saves in the loss. The Rebels outshot the Cougars, 11-4.
With the loss, Houston falls to 5-4-2 overall on the year. Next up, the Cougars travel to Cedar City, Utah, to take on the Southern Utah Thunderbirds on Monday, Oct. 7, before returning home to Robertson Stadium on Oct. 11.
