Houston Suffers Tough Loss From #21 Marquette

Houston, Texas - The Cougars suffered their third conference loss to the Cougars of #21 Marquette in a hard fought battle. The Cougars took the lead 15 minutes into the first half, only their second first half goal of the season. The goal by Senior Forward Laura Repp was the second of the season for her and only the third of her career, after the transition from her place as a Conference USA Defender of the Year in 1999. The assist was by Kara Bullinger on a pass from Anne Gasser from the sideline. The Cougars led into halftime by a score of 1-0.
Marquette countered the Cougar's goal ten minutes after the halftime break. Golden Eagle, Kate Gordon found the net off of an assist from fellow teammate Jerry Strechota to tie the score at 1-1.
The Cougars battled the Eagles in the second half both teams committing a net 27 fouls in the game. The Marquette Eagles took the game winning lead at the 74:52 minute mark off an unassisted goal by number 24 Jill Vendetti. Marquette clinched the win 2-1.
The Cougars record is now 2-5-1 with a record of 1-3 in Conference play. The Houston Cougars are back in action this coming weekend in College Station, where they will take on the Aggies of Texas A&M in a Texas rivalry.
