Houston, TX -- The University of Houston baseball team slugged 16 hits and had another solid starting pitching performance from true freshman Brad Sullivan to coast to a 13-2 Conference USA win over Saint Louis Friday night at Cougar Field. With the victory UH remained in a tie for first place with Tulane in the league standings with identical 17-5 conference records.
The Cougars gave Sullivan plenty of offensive support early in the contest. In the bottom of the second inning Houston erupted for four runs on six hits. Led by the trio of sophomore Chris Snyder and true freshmen Hyung Cho and Jared Grein, who all had three hits and two RBI each on the night, UH was able to score four more runs in the seventh and another three in the sixth.
With the team on its way to posting a near season-high for hits, Sullivan was able to hold the Billikens to just two unearned runs on five hits before leaving after 8.0 innings. The right-hander from Nederland, Texas, struck out eight and walked only three to push his season record to 6-5. Both the runs he allowed in the top of the sixth were unearned due to a fielding error to open the inning.
The Cougars improved to 26-23 overall. Saint Louis fell to 20-28 on the year and 8-14 in league play. The teams will play game two of the three-game, C-USA weekend series on Saturday, May 5. First pitch is slated for 2:00 p.m.
