MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin - Despite missing the final nine games of the regular season due to injury, the University of Houston freshman sensation Chandi Jones still remained the nation's leading freshman scorer in Division I women's basketball (twelfth overall) and her overall numbers-including 429 total points and a 21.5 per game average-shattered all Conference USA freshman scoring records.
Recognized for her outstanding season and her impact on the Lady Cougars' turnaround this season, Jones was named C-USA Freshman of the Year at the annual awards banquet on the eve of the start of the Conference women's basketball tournament. In awards voted on by the conference head coaches, sports information directors and one media representative from each of the 12 C-USA schools, Jones was also named to the First Team All-Conference as well as the All-Freshman Team. Lady Cougar senior Monet Sykes, who was the team's leading rebounder, was named to the Second Team All Conference.
