Cougars Receive All-Conference Awards

Milwaukee, Wisconsin - Conference USA announced its 2001 all-league teams and postseason award winners at the annual pre-tournament banquet Tuesday evening at the Hilton Milwaukee Center. The Tournament will take place Nov. 7-10 at Valley Fields near the Marquette University campus.
Two Lady Cougars received awards at the banquet. Freshman Nikki Hawkins who scored the only goal for the Cougars in their tournament game against Marquette received All-Freshman honors. Hawkins had three goals and an assist on the year and was one of Houston's most consistent players on the field.
The second conference award received by a Cougars was given to senior Kara Bullinger. Bullinger received All-Conference second team honors. She has been a captain for the Cougars in each year of the Houston soccer program's existence. Bullinger was offensive player of the week for October 21, 2001 for her two goals against Memphis. She is also not a stranger to conference awards receiving All-Freshman team honors in 1998, Second-team honors in 1999 and Third-team honors in 2000.
