HOUSTON, Texas - For the second time this season, University of Houston senior outside hitter Jennifer Wittenburg was named Conference USA Volleyball Player of the Week.
Wittenburg posted back-to-back double-double performances to lead the Cougars to wins over Southern Miss and Tulane. For the week, she recorded 51 kills, 26 digs and an attack percentage of .356.
After sitting out the first game against the Golden Eagles, the Houston native proceeded to blast 27 kills in the next three games. Against Tulane, she notched 24 kills and 24 digs for the 31st double-double of her career. She also moved past Houston's Julie Gates into fourth place in school history with 1,238 kills.
It marked the fourth time in her UH career that Wittenburg earned the weekly award from the league office.
Wittenburg and fellow senior Gabi Carbone will wrap up their Cougar regular season careers this week with three Conference USA matches. The homestand starts at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday against TCU in Hofheinz Pavilion.
Earlier this season, UH took a 3-0 victory over the Horned Frogs in Fort Worth, Texas.
