Houston Comes Up Short in Rivalry

Austin, Texas - Houston played a tough game with the Texas Longhorns on Sunday. The Cougars hustled against their in-state rival, but The Longhorns held the Cougars scoreless and took their fifth win of the season in the match (Final 4-0)
Texas scored quickly, seven minutes into the game to start the ball rolling. Kylee Wosnuk registered a goal, off of passes by her Longhorn teammates Jessica Hopkins and Kelly Wilson for the score. The next score by the Longhorns at 24:32, a reverse of roles, score by Kelly Wilson with the assist by Kylee Wosnuk. The Longhorns scored their third goal with six minutes left in the half. Goal by Abby Gutowski and the assists by Melissa Rubey and Michelle Wickwire. At the half Texas lead 3-0.
The Cougars came out with a growl in the second half, repeatedly pushing the ball into Longhorn territory and within scoring range, but were unable to get the ball into the net. The Cougars held off the Longhorns until the 76 minute mark, when it was Texas's Kelly Wilson again with the goal, but this time unassisted, after the block of previous shot by Houston's goalie Robin Cate.
Ashley Fortenberry took two shots on the day for Houston. Freshman Nikki Hawkins also added a shot in today's match.
The Cougars will take on Louisiana-Lafayette on Tuesday, October 9 at 7:00pm at Robertson Stadium.
