HOUSTON, Texas - After starting their longest homestand of the season with a tough loss, the University of Houston women's volleyball team looks to return to its winning ways when it plays host to Conference USA rival Saint Louis in a 7:30 p.m. match Friday at Hofheinz Pavilion.
The Cougars (5-8, 2-2 C-USA) will be looking to snap a three-match losing skid after falling to 12th-ranked Hawai'I 3-0 on Wednesday in front of a season-high crowd of 502 fans.
Senior outside hitter Jennifer Wittenburg, a selection to the All-C-USA Preseason Team, leads the Cougars with 299 kills and 194 digs. Junior middle hitter Jenny Tanneberger is second on the squad with 174 kills but leads all UH players with a .301 attack percentage.
Defensively, Gabi Carbone is second on the squad with 178 digs.
Saint Louis (4-6, 2-1 C-USA) comes into the match as winners of two of its last three matches, including a 3-2 win over Memphis on Friday. In that match, Colleen Hunter led the Billikens with 19 digs, while Brooke Minniear added 10 kills and a match-best 17 digs.
However, the Cougars have not treated their Friday night visitors kindly in the past. UH owns a 5-2 all-time record against Saint Louis and is riding a three-match winning streak against the Billikens.
The homestand continues Saturday night when the Cougars play host to Conference USA rival Memphis in a 7 p.m. match at Hofheinz Pavilion. That marks the second time the Tigers and Cougars have squared off this season, with Houston taking a 3-2 win at Memphis on Sept. 23.
