HOUSTON, Texas - The University of Houston women's volleyball team begins its longest homestand of the season Wednesday when it plays host to 12th-ranked Hawaii in a 7:30 p.m. contest at Hofheinz Pavilion.
UH will play all three of its matches this week in the friendly confines of Hofheinz Pavilion and five of its first six to open the month of October. Following Wednesday's match, the Cougars will play host to Saint Louis and Memphis in back-to-back matches on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
The Cougars (5-7) come into the match on the heels of a two-match losing streak after dropping 3-1 decisions at Conference USA rivals Cincinnati and Louisville last weekend.
Senior outside hitter Jennifer Wittenburg continues to lead the Cougar attack with 295 kills and 189 digs, placing her 1-2 in the latest C-USA individual statistical rankings. Included in those numbers was a 28-kill performance at 22nd-ranked Louisville on Saturday, the ninth time this season she has posted at least 20 kills in a match.
Houston was also boosted by the play of freshman middle hitter Loure Dews, who tallied career bests of nine kills and a .467 attack percentage at Cincinnati.
Hawaii enters Wednesday's contest after knocking off Louisiana Tech 3-0 on Saturday. In that match, Kim Willoughby led all players with 17 kills, while Maja Gustin added 12 kills for the Rainbows.
This will be the sixth time in school history that the two teams have met on the volleyball court, and the Cougars will be looking for their first win in the series.
