The University of Houston Lady Cougars kick off the basketball season in just over a month and take a step closer to that game in the first official practice of the year on Saturday, October 13, at 9:00am at Hofheinz Pavilion.
They will then take the floor again from 4:30-5:30pm for another practice which is open to the public.
Following Houston's evening practice, Lady Cougar head coach Joe Curl, his staff and players will host a barbeque in front of Hofheinz Pavilion prior to the UH-Memphis football game at Robertson Stadium, which begins at 7:00pm.
With seven newcomers--including six freshman and four players who were rated among the top 100 players in the country--joining the ranks of seniors Valerie Muoneke and Rosalind Carter, juniors Claire Stavropoulos and Angela Curl and sophomores Chandi Jones, Nicole Oliver and Courtney Pastner, the Lady Cougars strive to build upon the success the program enoyed last season.
"As far as the bottom line is concerned - and that is winning and losing - my goal is to win the next game. Period," said Curl. "From that other goals will come, but right now our main focus will be on winning the next game."
Last year, Houston posted a 19-13 overall record, including a 10-6 record in Conference USA, and received a No. 3 seed in the annual C-USA Tournament. After making it to the semifinals in the C-USA Tournament, Houston fell to New Mexico at The Pit in the first round of the WNIT.
Prior to the start of the regular season play on Nov. 18 against the visiting UTSA Lady Roadrunners at Hofheinz Pavilion, the Lady Cougars play two exhibition games on their home court. They will first play the Houston Jaguars on Nov. 5 at 7:00pm, then take on the Houston Flight on Nov. 12, also at 7:00pm.
