Paula Giles joined Houston Volleyball as the new Director of Volleyball Operations on March 1, 2016.
Giles comes to the University of Houston from Rice, where she spent the last eight months as a volunteer assistant for the Owl Volleyball team.
"Paula came highly recommended by several coaching friends. She has good experience in college athletics and understands the demands of the job," Platt said. "She is organized, detailed oriented and loves the game.
"We were looking for someone who could step in and learn the role quickly and be a great role model for our student-athletes. Paula was the perfect fit for the staff. Paula's long-term goals are college coaching or administration and I can see her being extremely successful in both areas."
Before making the move to Texas, the four-year volleyball letterwinner who competed as Paula Harris, graduated from the University of Central Missouri in May 2012 with a bachelor's in Physical Education. During this time, Giles spent two years working as camp director where she gained management and organization experience.
In August 2012, she joined TCU Volleyball as the graduate assistant manager. Giles also spent the next year and a half pursuing her master's in liberal arts at TCU, graduating in December 2013.
However, Giles' experience is not limited to management roles. After receiving her master's degree, she spent a year as an assistant coach at Pittsburg State University. Giles has also served as a club coach at both Texas Advantage Volleyball Club and Houston Skyline Juniors Club.
Giles comes to the University of Houston with three years of experience at the Division I level, as well as five years of experience at the NCAA Division II Regional Tournament.
"We are excited to add Paula and her husband Jeff Giles to the Houston family," Platt said.
