Giorgia Pozzan was named the University of Houston Tennis program's assistant coach on Aug. 25, 2022. The 2024 season will be her second at Houston.
In her first head coaching position, Pozzan spent four years at McNeese from 2019-22. In her first season, Pozzan led the Cowgirls to the Southland Conference Tournament while also coaching Charoline Erlandsson to an 18-2 singles season record that included a 4-0 mark in No. 1 action and 14-2 at the No. 2 spot. Erlandsson went on to earn All-Louisiana honors as well as Southland Conference All-Academic accolades.
Prior to McNeese, Pozzan spent four years as an assistant coach at Florida State where she played a vital role in the Seminoles' back-to-back NCAA tournament berths. Pozzan helped lead Florida State to the 2018 NCAA Elite Eight, its first in program history.
During the 2012-13 season, Pozzan was a volunteer assistant coach at Houston. She helped lead the Cougars to a 21-6 record, including trips to the NCAA Tournament and the Conference USA Championships. While pursuing her graduate degree at Houston, she spent a year as a teaching assistant at UH in the Sociology department.
As a player at Houston, Pozzan led the Cougars both seasons in dual singles play. She finished her career with a record of 50-17, ranking third all-time in Houston school history with a 74.6 winning percentage. Pozzan also tallied a 48-21 overall doubles record in two seasons with the Cougars.
She was named to the All-Conference USA Second Team in 2012 and to the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll in 2011 and 2012.
A native of Milan, Italy, Pozzan graduated with a bachelor and master of arts in sociology from Houston and with a master of science in sports management from Florida State.
In the summer, Pozzan plays tennis in Italy in Series B for Tennis Milano Bonaccossa. Her wife, Jill, is an assistant coach with Houston Volleyball.
