• Ben Moortgat joined University of Houston Football in January 2024 as its Assistant Strength Coach. The 2025 season will be his second with the Cougars after spending the previous three seasons at Tulane.
• At Tulane, Moortgat was elevated to Associate Director of Strength and Conditioning and worked exclusively with Football after joining the Green Wave in July 2021 as their Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach. Moortgat worked directly with Head Coach Willie Fritz and Director of Strength & Performance Kurt Hester to design and implement student-athlete programming.
• He was also the department’s Sports Science Coordinator and managed all aspects of Tulane’s Sports Science department including Catapult GPS, Norbord, Force Plates, Perch VBT among other aspects of the division.
• Moortgat came to Tulane from Northwest Mississippi Community College where he spent one year (July 2020-July 2021) as the department’s Director of Strength and Conditioning. There, he managed all aspects of athletics performance for all teams including Football. In addition to daily monitoring, he tracked training data and discussed evaluations of student-athletes with sport coaches. Moortgat oversaw the operation of both Football and Olympic sport weight rooms including maintenance and athletics budget management.
• Moortgat served as a Professional Intern with the University of Oregon (Jan. 2019-Feb. 2020) and University of Georgia (July 2018-Dec. 2018). At each stop, Moortgat assisted in the operation of the weight room and implementation of individualized conditioning, strength, speed, and flexibility programming. He also managed and oversaw return to training progressions and rehabilitation of injured players as well as implemented training regimen for football specialists. As part of his responsibilities, he led training sessions for incoming freshmen and redshirt/non-travel student-athletes. As a traveling member of the program, he assisted in game day operations.
• Moortgat began his career at Central Arkansas, where he spent nearly three years (July 2015-May 2018) as a Strength and Conditioning Graduate Assistant. There, he developed and implemented programming for both Football and Olympic sports at the direction of the Bears’ Head Strength & Conditioning Coach. He also managed all aspects for Basketball, Soccer and Cross Country. Additionally, he analyzed performance tracking data for all sports and collaborated with sport coaches and athletics trainers on rehabilitations.
• Moortgat received his Master of Science in Exercise Science from Central Arkansas in May 2018. He is an NSCA certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and has his CSCCa Strength and Conditioning Coach certification. The Brussels, Belgium, native received his Bachelor of Science from Haute Ecole Francisco Ferrer (Belgium) in 2015.
