Brandon Middleton has evolved into the Cougars big play receiver with his ability to stretch out defenses. He showed this ability in the season opening win against Rice with touchdowns of 47 and 55 yards. Those catches gave him 24 catches of at least 30 yards in his career. He already has one of the top yards per catch average in school history and has posted two of the top three seasonal ypc averages over the past two seasons. Middleton has 22 catches of at least 30 yards in his career and at least one catch in 29 consecutive games. In 2002 Middleton led all Cougar receivers with 674 receiving yards and six touchdowns and finished third on the squad with 28 receptions while appearing in all 12 games with nine start. He also returned 19 kickoffs with an average of 20.3 yards per return. In 2001 Middleton finished the season ranked second nationally after averaging 24.3 yards per catch.
