Dear Prospective Graduate Assistant,
Thank you for your interest in our program and the field of Athletic Training.
APPLICATION:
Please fill out the Graduate Assistant Application on line at uhcougars.com and return to me. Go to "Inside Athletics" and the "Sports Medicine" section. Upon receiving this information, your file will be reviewed by the University of Houston Sports Medicine Staff. After this review, you will be notified of your current status.
PROGRAM:
Our program will give you a wide array of experiences and an opportunity to work with many teams. We give our Graduate Assistants many responsibilities and in many respects, we treat them as a Staff Trainer. We require that our GA's be an ATC and a LAT (Texas Licensure).
VISIT UH:
Go to the UH web site at uh.edu to visit our campus. There is an Athletic Home page, admissions, campus map plus much more. The Graduate Assistant Application can be found on the Athletic Home page. Go to "Inside Athletics" and the "Sports Medicine" section. We can also arrange an on-campus visit anytime that both party's schedules can work out.
STIPEND:
There is a $12, 000.00 monetary stipend here at the University of Houston. It covers a 12 month agreement. Benefits include tuition reimbursement. School administrative fees will be the GA's responsibility.
ACADEMICS:
Must be accepted and enrolled in graduate school and take graduate level courses in order to receive the tuition reimbursement. We highly recommend the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences under the department of Health and Human Performance - M. Ed. In Physical Education "Sport and Fitness Administration". Other colleges can be discussed.

- Taken and passed the BOC exam - ATC
- Obtain a State of Texas Licensure - LAT

SELECTION:
We receive numerous applications every year. Unfortunately, there are a limited number of positions. Therefore, the Sports Medicine Department will select applicants that will benefit our program the best at that time. Our selection will be primary based upon your references, your GPA and your GRE score. Your references will need to speak for your commitment to the athletic training profession, your work ethic and your attitude. Your GPA and GRE score is very important to your acceptance to UH and will let us know how well you will be able to handle both your responsibilities as a GA and your academic potential for the master's degree.
Good luck and I look forward to hearing from you soon.
