UH Athletics To Broadcast Weekly Coaches' Show
July 30, 2003
HOUSTON, Texas - University of Houston Director of Athletics Dave Maggard and International Sports Properties, Inc., (ISP Sports) today announced a new radio call-in show for the upcoming Cougar Football Season.
"In working with ISP Sports, we felt it was essential that we have this kind of exposure for Cougar Football in the Houston area," commented Maggard.
"This is a part of our overall marketing plan in promoting the football program, selling tickets and informing our fans, alumni and recruits about the program. We are pleased that in partnership with ISP Sports we could take another important step in marketing football at UH."
This announcement comes in conjunction with announcing a multi-year partnership between ISP Sports, the multimedia rights holder for Cougar Athletics, and KAXF-FM (88.3).
With the agreement, which extends through the next three years, KAXF-FM will carry 12 editions of "Cougar Talk presented by Perry Homes," a weekly hour-long call-in show featuring the new UH head football coach, Art Briles, as well as the "Cougar Minute" daily reports throughout the football season. The call-in show will be broadcast live every Monday beginning at 7 pm at Irma's Southwest Grill located at 1314 Texas in downtown Houston.
The station, which is owned and operated by the American Family Association in Conroe, expanded its coverage area earlier this summer with a new 100,000-watt signal that will cover much of the greater Houston market and surrounding areas.
"We are extremely excited with this partnership with KAXF-FM which will dramatically increase our current coverage area for UH sports," Stacy Hall of ISP Sports says. "We are also very glad to be working with such a terrific partner as the American Family group headed by Wes Johnson."
Johnson, the general manager of KAXF-FM, is equally excited with the new agreement.
"At 88.3, we are proud to be a flagship station for UH Athletics (in baseball and women's basketball)," Johnson says, "and we are certainly excited about the upcoming fall season with the addition of "Cougar Talk" and the "Cougar Minute" to our programming."
KAXF-FM has carried UH baseball broadcasts this spring and will continue to serve as the flagship station on the Houston ISP Sports Network in that sport, as well as in women's basketball, during the 2003-2004 seasons.
The initial broadcast of "Cougar Talk presented by Perry Homes" is scheduled for August 25. The "Cougar Minute" reports will air twice daily beginning that date.
Houston Cougar Football and Men's Basketball games will continue to be broadcast on KBME-AM 790 throughout the 2003-2004 season.
