Spring GPA Record Broken by UH Student-Athletes
HOUSTON - Houston Athletics continually focuses on building Champions for Life by preparing more than 400 student-athletes to become champions in academics, athletics and in the community.
That process continued in the spring as Houston student-athletes set a record with a semester GPA of 2.97. The mark bolstered a cumulative GPA of 2.92, good for second-best in program history behind last spring's 2.93, while Houston student-athletes passed an average of 14.02 hours, the second-best total in program history in the spring.
Twenty-six percent of Houston's student-athletes (109) earned Dean's List honors for their spring semester academic work.

The numbers were bolstered by 11 of Houston's 17 teams eclipsing the 3.0 mark in cumulative GPA, led by Softball and Swimming & Diving, each with a 3.46 cumulative GPA. Volleyball was third with a 3.31 GPA while Cross Country led all men's programs with a 3.15 cumulative GPA.
Softball also led the way in spring semester GPA, recording a 3.62, while Swimming & Diving was next at 3.42. Volleyball ranked third among Houston's 17 sport programs at 3.37 in the spring, while Men's Cross Country led the way on the men's side with a 3.27 semester GPA.
Eight programs boasted record spring GPAs led by Softball's 3.62. Volleyball (3.37), Soccer (3.29), Baseball (3.15), Women's Indoor & Outdoor Track & Field (3.15) and Men's Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field (2.96) also accomplished the feat.
Seven sport programs own the highest GPA following a spring semester in their respective histories, led by Softball and Swimming & Diving at 3.46. Volleyball (3.31), Women's Golf (3.30), Baseball (3.13) and Women's Indoor & Outdoor Track & Field (3.12) all laid claim to the feat as well.
Twenty-two student-athletes recorded perfect 4.0 GPAs in the spring: Kelli Rollo (Women's Golf), Kailey Collier (Women's Golf), Megan Thothong (Women's Golf), Margo McEntire (Soccer), Nolin Packer (Soccer), Sarah Barker (Softball), Kaylin Crumpton (Softball), Breelyn Thames(Softball), Trystan Melancon (Softball), Cait Horner (Swimming & Diving), Jenny Penneck (Swimming & Diving), Peyton Kondis (Swimming & Diving), Victoria Tillman (Swimming & Diving), Maria Gonzales (Track & Field), Paige Lawrence (Track & Field), Kirstin Powell (Track & Field), Cecilia Garza (Track & Field), Brian Barraza (Track & Field), Luke Barksdale (Track & Field), Chenelle Walker (Volleyball) and Ryan Emmert (Volleyball).
For Horner, it marked a fourth consecutive semester with a perfect 4.0 GPA while Kondis recorded her third straight semester with a 4.0 GPA. Tillman, Powell, Barksdale, Walker and Emmert all recorded perfect GPAs for the second straight semester.
