Cox collects pair of RBIs, three hits on Sunday

LAWRENCE, Kansas – The Houston Baseball team dropped the series finale to Kansas, 8-4, on Sunday at Hoglund Ballpark.

Houston's (12-11, 1-5 Big 12) Jackson Baker (2-1) suffered the loss, surrendering the go-ahead run in the bottom of the eighth. Manning West (2-0) secured the win in relief, throwing the final 1.1 innings to claim the victory for Kansas (15-8, 4-2 Big 12).

GAME SUMMARY
Houston struck first as Cox slipped a double into right-center that allowed sophomore Justin Cherrington and senior Cade Climie to score. Kansas evened the score in the third as a sacrifice fly and a double pushed a pair of runs across to make the score 2-2.

The Cougars reclaimed the lead as Cox earned his second RBI of the day with a groundout that allowed Climie to score in the fourth. The Jayhawks answered in the bottom of the inning as a bases-loaded single drove home a pair to give Kansas a 4-3 edge.

A double-steal in the eighth tied the game as freshman Peyton Dickens scored, but Kansas claimed the lead for good with a solo homer and a three-run double in the bottom of the inning to earn an 8-4 victory.

Houston returns home for a 6:30 p.m. Tuesday tilt against #2 Texas at Don Sanders Field at Darryl and Lori Schroeder Park.
