Redmond, Mitchael produce multi-hit games; Houston drops fourth-straight game

HOUSTON – The University of Houston Softball team dropped its second of back-to-back midweek matchups against Kentucky, 9-2, at Cougar Softball Stadium on Wednesday.

The Cougars (17-14, 1-5 Big 12) notched eight hits on the night with sophomores Madox Mitchael and Ariel Redmond both recording a multi-hit outing with two hits each. The Wildcats (20-9, 1-5 SEC) pulled away with a three-run fourth inning to take the lead before a sealing the night with a five-run seventh frame.

NOTABLES

Sophomore Savanna Luther made her second start of the season behind the plate, hitting fifth in the lineup.
Freshman Leilani Garcia recorded her 10^th RBI of the season with a single down center field to score sophomore Ariel Redmond and give Houston a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the second.
Redmond produced her eighth multi-hit game of the season and 13^th of her career, tallying two hits on the night against the Wildcats.
Sophomore Madox Mitchael continued her recent form at the plate, notching two hits on the night to now tally 11 hits in her last seven games.

KEY INNINGS
2^nd | Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the second, the Cougars sparked momentum with runners at second and third via walk and a single from Redmond. Senior Mandy Esman delivered the first score of the game for Houston, popping a sac fly to deep left to score fellow senior Gabby Rawls from third to level the game at 1-1. Three pitches later, Garcia lined a single to left center to plate Redmond and give the Cougars a 2-1 advantage after two.

UP NEXT
Houston will go on the road for the first time in Big 12 play for a three-game series against Iowa State with game one set for 4 p.m., Friday. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
