Connors posted two touchdowns, Cougar’s first 100-yard rushing game since 2023
HOUSTON – Houston Football running back Dean Connors was named an Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Player of the Week honorable mention for the second week of the season, the organization announced Tuesday.
Connors put up 132 rushing yards in addition to a pair of touchdowns against his former team to help Houston retain possession of the Bayou Bucket with a 35-9 win over Rice on Sunday.
The first player to win the Bayou Bucket for both teams, Connors' rushing total was the most yards by a Cougar since Stacy Sneed posted 143 yards against Temple on Nov. 12, 2022. He was also Houston's first player to hit the century mark since Parker Jenkins tallied 105 yards on the ground against Sam Houston on Sept. 23, 2023, against Sam Houston.
Connors hit paydirt for the first time as a Cougar on a 54-yard scamper with 40 seconds left in the second quarter to give Houston the lead. He added another score with a 42-yard run with 3:40 remaining in the game to cap the scoring at 35-9.
Connors is the 18th Cougar to have hit 100-plus rushing yards in the Bayou Bucket Classic, with the mark being Houston's 19th 100-yard rushing game in the series. His 132 yards were also the most by a Houston player in the series since Charles Sims amassed 158 yards on Sept. 29, 2012.
