Four Men’s Golfers Named Cobalt All-America Scholars

Wolfgang Glawe, Laurenz Schiergen, Hudson Weibel and Chi Chun Chen recognized

Seniors Wolfgang Glawe and Laurenz Schiergen, junior Hudson Weibel and sophomore Chi Chun Chen earned their place on the team with their impressive academic achievements.
To be eligible for, honorees must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically in NCAA Division I. In addition, they must participate in 50% of their team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 in NCAA Division I, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at their college or university.
The Cougars were four of more than 500 students from 190 schools to be honored. The quartet helped lead the Cougars to the All-American Intercollegiate team championship at Golf Club of Houston in mid-February and to the program's fifth straight NCAA Regional appearance in May.
These were only the latest academic honors for Houston Men's Golf. Weibel and Schiergen earned places on the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team.
ABOUT LAURENZ SCHIERGEN
Majoring in management, Schiergen competed in 33 rounds across 11 tournaments in 2024-25.
The Cologne, Germany, native posted a 72.55 scoring average with 12 rounds of par or lower.
He recorded four Top-20 finishes, including back-to-back Top-10 showings at the Houston Classic (tied for sixth) and Border Olympics (tied for eighth) early in the spring season.
Receiving his bachelor's degree in May, Schiergen collected the second CSC Academic All-District honor of his career after receiving the first following his sophomore season at Kansas State.

ABOUT HUDSON WEIBEL
Majoring in integrated studies, Weibel played 33 rounds over 11 tournaments and was one of the Cougars' steadiest players during the 2024-25 season.
He finished second on the team with a 71.55 scoring average and ranked third among the Cougars with 15 rounds of par or lower, including nine in the 60s.
A native of Dallas, Weibel fired three straight rounds in the 60s, including a career-low 65 in the Second Round, to lead the Cougars to a second-place team finish and a career-best second-place individual showing at the White Sands WVU Houston Invitational in Bahamas in late October 2024.
He added a fifth-place finish at the Houston Classic early in the spring season and enjoyed back-to-back Top-10 showings at the Cabo Collegiate and All-American Intercollegiate in March. Weibel closed his 2024-25 season with a 68 in the Final Round of the NCAA Urbana Regional on the way to a 21st-place finish.
Weibel received his bachelor's degree in May.
ABOUT WOLFGANG GLAWE
Glawe was a consistent leader for the Cougars throughout the 2024-25 season.
Majoring in sports administration, the St. Leon-Rot, Germany, native led the Cougars with a 71.13 scoring average and stood second with 16 rounds of par or better, including a team-high 11 in the 60s.
Glawe led Houston with three Top-Five finishes, including third-place showings at the All-American Intercollegiate at Golf Club of Houston in Humble, Texas, and at the Big 12 Championships at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Okla. For the latter performance, he was named to the Big 12 Championships All-Tournament Team for the first time in his career.
He received his bachelor's degree in May.
ABOUT CHI CHUN CHEN
The youngest member of the Cougar group, Chen competed in 33 rounds over 11 tournament and posted a 72.21 scoring average with a team-high 17 rounds of par or lower.
A sports administration major, Chen enjoyed three Top-10 finishes and five Top-10 showings in 2024-25. He opened the season with a fifth-place finish at the Argent Financial Classic at Squire Creek Country Club in Choudrant, La., and finished second at the Cougars' own All-American Intercollegiate at Golf Club of Houston in Humble, Texas, with a score of 6-under 210, thanks to a career-low 66 in the Second Round.
