Grant Doggett Qualifies for US Amateur Championship

Junior shoots 67 in final round of qualifying at Brae Burn Country Club in Houston on Monday
HOUSTON – University of Houston Men's Golf junior Grant Doggett fired a 5-under 67 in the final round of qualifying at Brae Burn Country Club to earn his place at the U.S. Amateur Championship.
The Beach City, Texas, native birdied two of his first four holes to start his day and endured only one bogey in his round.
After his third birdie of his first nine at No. 9, Doggett capped his round with three straight birdies at Nos. 15-17 to tie for fifth claim his qualifying spot.

This marked the seventh straight season and the 12th time in the last 12 years in which at least one Cougar qualified for the U.S. Amateur Championship. A year ago, Chi Chun Chen competed at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Hazeltine, Minn.
Doggett will join a field of 312 players on the Lake Course and the Ocean Course at The Olympic Club in San Francisco on Aug. 11-17. Players will compete in 36 holes of stroke play on Aug. 11-12.
From there, the top 64 players will be placed in a bracket with the champion being crowned on Aug. 17.
