
Dove Wins Big 12 Championship Shot Put Title on Friday

KeAyla Dove completes Big 12 sweep by winning outdoor shot put title
LAWRENCE, Kan. – University of Houston graduate KeAyla Dove was crowned the Big 12 Conference women's outdoor shot put champion on Friday at Rock Chalk Park.
After winning the indoor conference title in March, Dove completed the sweep by winning the outdoor title with a season best mark of 18.14m.
Senior Grant Levesque placed second in the men's decathlon with 7848 points for the second best mark in program history. Levesque recorded personal bests in the 110-meter hurdles (14.18), javelin (52.18m) and the 1500m (4:46.31).
The Cougars scored 17 points in the men's high jump with sophomore Antrea Mita leading the pack in second with a mark of 2.15m. Senior My'Kell Beck followed in third place with the same mark. Junior Turey Stoudemire posted a season best mark of 2.11m for sixth place.
Sophomore Cordell Nwokeji recorded a season best mark of 18.81m for sixth place in the men's shot put.
Freshman Evina Panagiotou tied for eighth in the women's pole vault with a mark of 4.06m.
SATURDAY'S FINALISTS
The Cougars earned four spots in the men's 110-meter hurdles final. Senior Jamar Marshall Jr. posted the fastest time of the afternoon at 13.37. This time moved him to second on Houston's all-time performance list.
Senior John Adesola earned his qualification with a time of 13.83, junior Anthony Trucks also posted the same time and sophomore Jairius Burton secured the final spot at 13.95.
Juniors Kaycee McCoy and Ali Mack qualified for the women's 100-meter hurdles final. McCoy ran a time of 13.55 while Mack earned her spot in the final at 13.69.
After earning a spot in the men's 200m final, senior Trey East III ran a personal best time of 45.81 to lock a spot in the men's 400m.
H-Town Speed City had a strong showing in the men's 100m with three Cougars securing spots in the final. Freshman Germain Smith-Mata ran the third fastest time of the afternoon with a time of 10.38.
Less than two hours after qualifying in the men's 110-meter hurdles, Adesola secured his spot in the 100m final with a time of 10.38. Sophomore Cayden Broadnax secured the final spot at 10.43.
BIG 12 OUTDOOR STANDINGS
After today's results, BYU leads the men's side with 58.66 points and Texas Tech is in second with 46 points. Houston finished the day in third with 30 points, followed by Iowa State in fourth with 27 points.
BYU leads the women's side with 49.5 points, Baylor is in second with 38.5 and Oklahoma State rounds out the top-three with 38 points. Houston sits in 12th place with 10.33 points after Dove scored 10 and Panagiotou added 0.33 points.
