Lugo hits fourth homer, Luzardo works 5.0 quality innings
LAKE CHARLES, La. – Houston Baseball earned its 13th road win of the year by holding on for a 4-3 win over McNeese on Tuesday night at Joe Miller Ballpark.
In his third start of the year, Diego Luzardo (2-1) worked the second-longest outing of his career, spinning 5.0 innings while allowing just one run. Luzardo was perfect through three innings before McNeese (30-11) scored its first run in the fourth inning without recording a hit up until that point.
Houston (24-20) struck for two runs in the third inning with a two-run home run off the bat of third baseman Aaron Lugo. Lugo's third inning blast was his first since March 23 at UCF, and his fourth of the season.
The Cougars scored another pair of runs in the sixth inning on an RBI double from right fielder Xavier Perez and a safety squeeze RBI bunt from second baseman Anthony Avalos.
Houston's bullpen stable of Andres Perez, Chris Scinta and David Stich combined for three scoreless frames and six strikeouts.
The Cowboys made things interesting in the ninth by scoring a pair of runs and getting putting the winning run on base, but right hander Richie Roman (7) finished the inning for his seventh save of the year.

Houston will return to Don Sanders Field at Darryl and Lori Schroeder Park for a three-game series against Utah Friday-Sunday. All three games this upcoming week will stream on ESPN+ with Sunday's game now slated to begin at noon.
