Seniors Jacob Borow & Wolfgang Glawe tied for 17th at 208 to lead Cougars
PHOENIX, Ariz. & BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The University of Houston Men's Golf program finished sixth at the Thunderbird Collegiate with a two-day, 54-hole score of 833 at Papago Golf Club on Saturday evening.
The Cougars posted a team total of 286 in Saturday's Final Round on the 7,419-yard, par-71 course.
Seniors Jacob Borow and Wolfgang Glawe each tied for 17th with scores of 208 to lead Houston.
Glawe led the Cougars on Saturday with a score of 68 to rise 12 places in the final standings. The St. Leon-Rot Germany, native began his day with back-to-back birdies on Nos. 1-2 but returned to even par with the second bogey of his first nine at No. 7.
Glawe drained two birdies in a four-hole stretch at Nos. 12-15 and added his final birdie of the tournament at the par-4 18th hole.
Junior Hudson Weibel finished 22nd at 20-9 while sophomore Chi Chun Chen tied for 23rd at 210. Senior Laurenz Schiergen tied for 47th at 216 while junior Bryant Hiskey II – playing as an individual – tied for 49th at 217.
Host and fifth-ranked Arizona State won the team championship with a score of 813 to finish 12 shots ahead of #33 Colorado. #14 Utah (829), #49 New Mexico (830) and Grand Canyon (832) rounded out the Top-Five leaders.
Arizona State's Pongsapak Laopakdee defeated New Mexico's Caron Herron on the first hole of a player to win medalist honors after each finished with a score of 12-under 201. Preston Summerhays (Arizona State) finished third at 202 while Mason Snyder (Loyola Marymount), Enrique Dimayuga (SMU) and Gabriel Palacios (Utah) tied for fourth at 203.
AGGIE INVITATIONAL
In addition to the Thunderbird Collegiate, sophomore Grant Doggett and freshman Hsuan-Yi Chen opened play as individuals at the Aggie Invitational at Traditions Club in Bryan-College Station, Texas on Saturday.
Doggett fired a 2-under 71 in the afternoon session Saturday and was tied for 15th at 220. The Beach City, Texas, native drained four birdies in the Second Round, including back-to-back efforts at Nos. 14-15.
Chen was tied for 44th at 226.
Texas A&M teammates Phicaksn Maichon, Wheaton Ennis and Aaron Pounds stood 1-2-3 on the individual leaderboard at 213, 215 and 216, respectively.
The Final Round tees off Sunday morning.
