
Men’s Golf Finishes First Day at Valspar Collegiate Invitational

Final Round tees off Tuesday morning at Floridian National Golf Club
PALM CITY, Fla. – The University of Houston Men's Golf program stood in 13th with a score of even-par 568 following the first day of the prestigious Valspar Collegiate Invitational at Floridian National Golf Club on Monday.
After opening the tournament with a score of 285 on the 7,088-yard, par-71 course, the 42nd-ranked Cougars bettered that total by one stroke in the afternoon.
The Valspar Collegiate Invitational team field features five of the nation's Top-10 teams with each of the Top Three, eight of the Top 20 and 11 of the Top 25.
Seniors Jacob Borow and Wolfgang Glawe were tied for 27th at 141 while junior Hudson Weibel was tied for 43rd at 143. Senior Laurenz Schiergen was tied for 50th at 144 while sophomore Chi Chun Chen was tied for 60th at 145.
Playing as individuals, freshman Hsuan-Yi Chen was tied for 79th at 151 while junior Bryant Hiskey II stood in 87th at 152. Sophomore Grant Doggett finished the first day in 90th at 155.
#2 Texas held the first-day lead with a score of 543 to finish eight shots ahead of #3 Arizona State. #7 Oklahoma (555), #1 Auburn (556), #14 Florida State (557), #17 Duke (557), #23 Texas A&M (559), #19 Vanderbilt (560), #8 North Carolina (562) and No. 22 Tennessee (564) rounded out the Top 10.
Oklahoma's Jase Summy stood atop the individual leaderboard at 129, thanks to a 64 in Monday's afternoon round. Texas' Daniel Bennett and North Carolina's David Ford were tied for second at 131 while Duke's Kelly Chinn was in fourth at 134.
The tournament concludes with the Final Round beginning Monday morning. Admission is FREE to, and all fans are invited to attend.

Glawe begins the day off No. 12 at 6:30 a.m. (CDT), Tuesday, with Borow (No. 13), Weibel (No. 14), Schiergen (No. 15) and Chi Chun Chen (No. 16) following. Hiskey starts the Final Round off No. 17 with Doggett (first group off No. 18) and Hsuan-Yi Chen (second group off No. 18) following.
