Alexa Saldana Leads Women’s Golf at Chevron Collegiate

Junior fires 2-under 70 in Tuesday’s Final Round to tie for 12th at 6-under 210
HUMBLE, Texas – University of Houston Women's Golf junior Alexa Saldana fired a 70 during the Final Round of the Chevron Collegiate to lead the Cougars and tie for 12th at 6-under 210 at Golf Club of Houston on Tuesday afternoon.
As a team, the 21st-ranked Cougars posted their third straight team round of par or lower and moved into seventh with a two-day, 54-hole score of 851 on the 6,203-yard, par-72 course.
Starting her day off No. 7, Saldana ran into trouble with a bogey at the par-4 10th hole. However, that would be the only blemish on her scorecard.
The Mexico City native returned to even par with her first birdie of the day at No. 13 and added two more birdies on her final six holes to finish the round with a 70.
Playing as an individual, freshman Annika Ishiyama tied for 25th at 214 while sophomore Maelynn Kim and senior Hyeonji Kang tied for 31st at 215.
Junior Natalie Saint Germain joined Saldana under par with a 69 after sinking seven birdies during her final round and tied for 38th at 216 while junior Moa Svedenskiold tied for 41st at 217.
Playing as individuals, sophomore Ellen Yates tied for 55th at 220, senior Brooke Morales tied for 61st at 22 and senior Anna Economon finished 90th at 281.
#16 TCU captured the team championship with a score of 830 to finish nine strokes ahead of #17 Texas A&M. #1 Arkansas (840), #42 SMU (845), #12 Mississippi State (845) and Illinois (847) rounded out the Top-Six leaders with North Texas (856), UTSA (859) and Tulsa (862) completing the Top 10.
Texas A&M's Vanessa Borovilos earned medalist honors with a score of 15-under 201 and finished two shots ahead of TCU's Camille Min-Gaulter. Mackenzie Lee (SMU), Cayetana Fernandez (Texas A&M), Sofia Barroso Sa (TCU), Celine Chen (SMU) and Sam Whateley (Mississippi State) tied for third at 206.

Following the Chevron Collegiate, the Cougars continue their spring slate as they Cougars tee off at the Riverbend Intercollegiate at Riverbend Country Club in Sugar Land, Texas, on March 10-11.
