KeAyla Dove garners first weekly award for Houston this season
HOUSTON – Following a successful showing at the Howie Ryan Invitational, Houston graduate thrower KeAyla Dove was named the Big 12 Conference Women's Track & Field Co-Athlete of the Week, the league announced Wednesday. Â
This marked Houston's first conference weekly award this season and second all-time Big 12 Track & Field Athlete of Week accolade. De'Vion Wilson earned the first weekly award in program history on May 1, 2024.
Â
Dove shattered multiple records in the women's shot put to extend her school record while also setting a facility and meet record with a career-best throw of 19.46m (63-10.25) on Saturday. She currently ranks first in the nation, first in the Big 12 and now holds the third all-time best mark in NCAA indoor history.
Â
Before joining Houston, Dove was a record-setting thrower at North Texas, where she won the 2024 American Athletic Conference Indoor Championship and set multiple records, including the North Texas indoor record and the AAC Championship meet record.
Â
Dove's previous career-best in the weight throw was 18.95m (62-2.25), recorded at the 2023 AAC Indoor Championships. Throughout her collegiate career, she has earned three All-America honors—two indoor and one outdoor.
Â
Dove is joined by BYU's Riley Chamberlain as this week's Big 12 Women's Co-Athlete of the Week. Baylor's Nathaniel Ezekiel and Texas Tech's Malachi Snow collected men's Co-Athlete of the Week honors.Â
Â
UP NEXT
Dove heads to the 2025 USATF Indoor Championships on Friday in Staten Island, N.Y., where she will compete in the women's shot put.
Â
Houston returns to action as it heads to Lubbock, Texas, for the Big 12 Indoor Championship from Feb. 28-March 1.
