
Men’s Golf Opens Spring Season at Border Olympics

Cougars begin First Round on Monday morning at Laredo Country Club with Final Round on Tuesday

This will be the first of six team-scoring tournaments for the Cougars during the spring.
Houston competed in four tournaments during the fall campaign, earning second-place finishes at the Argent Financial Classic at Squire Creek Country Club in Choudrant, La., on Sept. 8-10, 2024, and the White Sands WVU Invitational at Ocean Golf Club Course in Paradise Island, Bahamas, on Oct. 25-27, 2024.
A year ago, Houston for fifth with a score of 12-under 852 at the Border Olympics. Austyn Reily closed the tournament with a career-low 65 to tie for fifth at 8-under 208 while Chen tied for 15th with a 54-hole total of 4-under 212.
Schools will play 36 holes Monday with the Final Round on Tuesday with 8 a.m., shotgun starts each day.

ABOUT the COUGARS
Under the leadership of Director of Golf Jonathan Dismuke, the Cougars will be represented by senior Jacob Borow, senior Wolfgang Glawe, senior Laurenz Schiergen, junior Hudson Weibel and sophomore Chi Chun Chen. Sophomore Grant Doggett will compete as an individual.

Weibel is one of five Cougars averaging 72.00 or lower for the season, joining Borow (71.22), junior Bryant Hiskey II (71.83), Glawe (81.89) and Chen (71.91).
Chen tops the Cougars with eight rounds of par or lower in 11 total rounds. Schiergen is on the verge of breaking into the 72.00 Club this season at 72.18 and stands second behind Chen with six rounds of par or better.
TEAM FIELD
The Cougars will compete in a 16-team field featuring Augusta, Houston Christian, Illinois State, Lamar, Lipscomb, Louisiana, Miami (Ohio), Michigan, New Mexico State, Rice, Sam Houston, Troy, ULM, UT Rio Grande Valley and Wright State.
TEE TIMES
For Monday's play, Houston will tee off at 8 a.m., and compete in groups with student-athletes from Michigan, Augusta and Sam Houston.
Glawe begins the day in the first group off No. 1 with Borow (second group off No. 1), Schiergen (No. 2), Weibel (No, 3) and Chen (No. 4) following. Doggett begins the the first in the first group off No. 18.

UP NEXT
Following the Border Olympics, Houston compete at the Cabo Collegiate at Twin Dolphin Club in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico on March 2-4.
The Cougars return to Houston to play host to their All-American Intercollegiate at Golf Club of Houston in. Humble, Texas, on March 17-18.
