Fritz Named Semifinalist for George Munger Coach of the Year Award

Houston head coach 1 of 24 semifinalists for Coach of Year Award
HOUSTON – University of Houston Football Head Coach Willie Fritz has orchestrated a turnaround for the ages at the University of Houston with the Cougars ranked #23 nationally and has been named a semifinalist for the George Munger Coach of the Year Award.
Fritz and the #25 Cougars are 8-2 following back-to-back 4-8 seasons after joining the Big 12 Conference and the Cougars are currently tied for third in the Big 12 standings at 5-2.
The 2022 George Munger Coach of the Year, Fritz has Houston in the national rankings for the second time this season thanks to an offensive turnaround and a consistent defense year-over-year.
Earlier this season, Coach Fritz was named to the Paul "Bear" Bryant Coach of the Year Watch List.
Fritz is one of 24 semifinalists and one of three from the Big 12 Conference (Kalani Sitake – BYU, Joey McGuire – Texas Tech).
The Maxwell Football Club was founded in 1935 and is one of the oldest football organizations of its kind in America. The Club recognizes excellence in performance at the high school, collegiate and professional levels.
Finalists for the 2025 George Munger Award will be named on Dec. 8, with the winner being announced on Dec. 30, 2025.
