Cougars stumble in first trip to Colorado since 1991
BOULDER, Colo. – The Houston Volleyball team couldn't contain Colorado in a three-set loss in CU Events Center on Saturday afternoon.
Houston (8-7, 1-3 Big 12) again led the match in blocks, stuffing the Buffaloes (13-2, 4-0 Big 12) eight times while only surrendering six blocks on offense. Redshirt seniors Barakat Rahmon and Kellen Morin tied for the match lead in the category with four apiece.
Colorado claimed the early lead with a 5-0 run two points into the first. Multiple short bursts extended the Buffaloes lead to 23-13, but a late 7-1 surge from the Cougars cut into the deficit. Colorado ultimately ended up winning the set, 25-20.
The Buffaloes continued to hold the momentum into the second. Peppering Houston with many short runs, the longest of which being 4-0, Colorado claimed the frame, 25-15.
Down five after seven serves, Houston fought back to within one with a 4-0 run, but Colorado kept them from tying the set at any point, cruising to a 25-19 win to close the match.
UP NEXT
Houston closes out its four-match road trip with a pair of matches in the Beehive State next week. The Cougars start with Utah at 8 p.m., Thursday before clashing with BYU at 2 p.m., Sunday.
