Wells Placed on D1Softball’s D100 Freshman Watch List

Wells earns spot among nation’s best newcomers
HOUSTON – University of Houston Softball freshman Brooke Wells was selected for D1Softball's D100 Freshman Watch List, the publication announced Wednesday. Wells, who participated in the USA Softball Junior Women's National Team program, was ranked as the #26 recruit in the 2024 signing class by Extra Inning Softball while also being tabbed as the #16 signee out of the Southwest Region and the #3 first baseman in the group of incoming freshmen.
The Round Rock, Texas, native was selected for the USA Softball U-18 Women's National Team for the team's most recent competition at the World Baseball Softball Congress' (WBSC) World Cup Group Stage. Wells helped the top-ranked USA finish with a 6-0 record at the tournament in Dallas, amassing nine RBIs with 10 runs scored during the event. She also collected a .467 batting average along with five extra-base hits, including a grand slam against Ireland.
Wells was one of 19 selections to the list from the Big 12 Conference. Including 100 of the nation's best first-year players, the D100 Freshman Watch List is a true watch list; players are listed alphabetically by team with no numbered rankings attached. The watch list puts an early spotlight on true freshmen who could make an immediate impact on their respective teams.
Houston kicks off its 2025 campaign on Feb. 7 with a doubleheader as part of an opening weekend tournament. Overall, Houston will play 51 games during the season, including 27 home games at Cougar Softball Stadium. Season tickets are on sale now for $100, costing under $4 per game.
