Houston quarterback honored for work in community, leadership
DALLAS – University of Houston Football quarterback Donovan Smith was named to the watch list for the eighth annual Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year today, joining a group of 52 of the nation's top leaders in college football.
The award annually honors exemplary leadership by a college football player, and factors in an individual's attitude, work to overcome hardship and ability to inspire others.
Recently, Smith and his teammates purchased and donated backpacks and supplies to 450 local elementary students using money earned from NIL deals. The donation helped ensure children impacted by Hurricane Beryl had necessities including backpacks, pencil pouches, glue sticks and crayons among other supplies to start the school year.
