Cougars rebound, close out weekend with three-set victory against Lady Tigers
HOUSTON – Behind graduate libero Kate Georgiades' fourth career double-double, the University of Houston Volleyball team closed the door on non-conference play with a sweep of Tennessee State on Saturday evening inside the Fertitta Center.

Georgiades recorded 13 digs, extending her streak to 14 consecutive matches with double-digits in the category, while also adding 13 assists, a new career-high.Â

Houston spread around its offensive effort, with 10 different players recording a kill. Freshman outside hitter Lily Barron led the Cougars with nine while redshirt freshman Ashlyn Bellamy recorded six kills, including her first collegiate kill, off the bench.Â

Redshirt junior Barakat Rahmon shined on both sides of the ball, tallying seven kills in addition to a team-leading five blocks as the Cougars recorded nine stops as a team in the match.Â

Houston started hot, recording 17 kills and a .344 hitting percentage in the opening frame. While the set was tied after 20 points, Houston used a 7-2 run to claim the lead for good. Barron continued to shine from the service line to cap the set, clinching the 25-18 set win with her 20th service ace of the season.Â

The Cougars continued to control play in the second. The Lady Tigers tied the set twice but was never able to take the lead as Houston held Tennessee State to a .074 (8-6-27) hitting percentage in the frame. After facing 1-1 and 6-6 ties, Houston used a 4-1 stretch to take the lead that it further extended with a 5-0 service stretch from Barron to push the score to 16-9, helping lead the way to a 25-20 win in the second for Houston.

The Cougars shut the door on the match in the third. An early 5-0 run put Houston up 6-1 and seven different players aided with kills as the Cougars sealed the sweep with a 25-21 set three win.Â
