Cougars collect three singles and three doubles victories
WACO, Texas – The University of Houston Tennis team opened fall action collecting three singles and three doubles victories on the first day of the H-E-B Invite at the Hurd Tennis Center on Friday.
DOUBLES
The Cougars won all three of their doubles matches and three of their four singles contests. Juniors Gabriela Cortes and Sophie Schouten opened the day defeating SMU's Arianna Stavropoulos and Caroline McGinley, 6-4.
Cortes and Schouten continued their winning ways in the semifinals as they ran away with the match against Nithesa Selvaraj and Saara Orav of Rice, 6-1.
After earning a bye in the opening round, sophomores Valeriia Krokhotina and Iva Sepa advanced to the finals of the green bracket by defeating Colorado's Willow Gretsch and Lera Alexin, 7-5.
SINGLES
The Cougars fought hard to come away with three victories. Schouten defeated UTSA's Letizia Corsini, 3-6, 6-4 (10-8), Krokhotina knocked off Eku Youri (UTSA), 6-4, 5-7 (10-6), and Cortes pushed past SMU's Caroline McGinley, 4-6, 6-2, (10-5).
