EUGENE, Ore. – Sophomore sprinter Louie Hinchliffe won Houston Track & Field's first NCAA Outdoor Track & Field individual title since 2019 as he won the 100-meter dash for the Cougars at the 2024 NCAA Track & Field Outdoor Championships on Friday.
Â
The men's team finished sixth overall with 30.5 points, the highest among Big 12 Conference teams. This is also the highest point total for the Cougars since posting 40 points at the 2019 NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Â
Hinchliffe ran a lifetime best of 9.95 to win the 100-meter national championship on Friday. After a great start, the sophomore pulled away from the rest of the competition to earn Houston's first 100-meter championship since 2018.
Â
The Sheffield, England, native is now fourth all-time in school history in the event with this mark. Hinchliffe is the seventh Cougar to win the 100-meter dash as he joins Head Coach Carl Lewis (1981), Stanley Floyd (1982), Joe Deloach (1988), Leroy Burrell (1990), Samuel Jefferson (1994) and Cameron Burrell (2018).
Â
Hinchliffe opened the day with bronze in the 4x100-meter relay alongside senior Shaun Maswanganyi, senior Ireon Brown and freshman Cayden Broadnax for First Team All-America honors. The squad's time of 38.25 was a season best time and the second-fastest in school history.
Â
Maswanganyi earned First-Team All-America honors in two events at his final NCAA Outdoor Championships as he finished seventh in the 100-meter with a time of 10.05 and placed sixth in the 200-meter at 20.25.
Â
In the 110-meter hurdles, senior De'Vion Wilson posted a fifth-place finish with a time of 13.36 for First Team All-America honors. Wilson concluded his collegiate career as the outdoor 110-meter hurdles and indoor 60-meter hurdles school record holder.
Â
Senior David Ajama earned Second Team All-America honors as he finished 11th in the triple jump with his leap of 16.06 (52'-3.75) meters. Ajama set this mark in his first jump to seal a Top-12 finish.
Â
