Graduate Sydni Townsend places fifth in the 400-meter hurdles, 4x400-meter relay takes fifth place
EUGENE, Ore. – The University of Houston Track and Field program concluded the 2024 outdoor season as graduate Sydni Townsend and the 4x400-meter relay team earned First Team All-America honors at the 2024 NCAA Track & Field Outdoor Championships on Saturday.
The women's team finished in 33rd place with eight points, the most points scored since the 2007 NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Townsend opened Saturday action as she ran to a fifth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles, crossing the line at 55.01. The graduate hurdler scored four points for the team and earned First Team All-America honors.
Townsend is the first 400-meter hurdler to post a fifth-place finish since assistant coach Sandra Glover earned fifth in 1991. The graduate concludes her collegiate career with three All-America team honors.
Townsend joined graduate Kelly-Ann Beckford, senior Iman Babineaux and freshman Michaela Mouton in the 4x400-meter relay, where they finished fifth with a season-best and school-record extending time of 3:24.73. This placement earned Townsend, Beckford, Babineaux and Mouton First Team All-America honors.
As a program, the Cougars finished the 2024 outdoor season with one NCAA National Champion in the men's 100-meter dash, a third-place finish in the men's 4x100-meter relay and a total of 15 All-America honors.
