
Beckford Set to Compete at Jamaican Olympic Trials

Kelly-Ann Beckford opens action in the 800-meter on Thursday
HOUSTON – University of Houston Track & Field's Kelly-Ann Beckford will look to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games as she competes at the Jamaican National Trials, hosted at National Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica, beginning Thursday.

Beckford is set to compete in the 800-meter prelims scheduled for Thursday, followed by finals on Friday. The Trelawny, Jamaica, native enters the trials with the second-best time in Jamaica as she ran a personal best time of 2:00.70 at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational in April.Â
Beckford closed out her collegiate career with the Cougars at the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, where she earned Second Team All-America honors in the 800-meter at 2:01.36. She also earned First Team All-America honors with a fifth-place finish in the women's 4x400-meter relay.

During the indoor season, Beckford was named the 2024 Big 12 Conference Women's Indoor Performer of the Year as she claimed Houston women's track & field's first Big 12 title in the 800-meter, followed by a relay title in the 4x400-meter relay. Beckford set a school record, Big 12 meet record and facility record as she raced her way to the 800-meter title.
