Houston Men Punch Seven Tickets to NCAA Championships

Cougars qualify in seven events on Friday in Arkansas
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Houston Men's Track & Field program put on a show on Friday at the NCAA West Preliminary Round as the Cougars secured seven qualifications for the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Freshman Antrea Mita was the first Cougar of the day to punch a ticket to the NCAA Outdoor Championships as he recorded a personal best jump of 2.17m in the high jump.
Houston's 4x100-meter relay team of senior Ireon Brown, sophomore Louie Hinchliffe, freshman Cayden Broadnax and senior Shaun Maswanganyi earned their ticket to Eugene, Ore., as they combined for the second-fastest time in the event at 38.80.
Senior De'Vion Wilson improved his school record as he was the first individual qualifier in the running events and ran a 13.24 in the 110-meter hurdles. Going into the NCAA Championships, Wilson is tied for the fastest qualifying time in the nation.
H-Town Speed City continued to shine as sprinters Hinchliffe and Maswanganyi recorded the world's fastest all-condition 100-meter dash this year as they swept first and second place. Hinchliffe crossed the finish line first with a wind-assisted 9.84 (+2.5), while Maswanganyi finished second at 9.89 (+2.5).
Maswanganyi secured his second individual qualification, winning his heat in the 200-meter dash at 20.08. The senior will compete in three events in Oregon: 4x100-meter-relay, 100-meter and 200-meter dash.
Senior David Ajama secured a spot at his first NCAA Outdoor Championships in the triple jump as he posted a personal best jump of 16.07m on his first attempt. Ajama is now ninth on Houston's all-time list in the event.
Senior Lusekelo Mwamukonda concluded his collegiate career with a personal best throw of 55.96m in the discus throw. Mwamukonda added his name to the Houston record books as he holds the ninth best throw in program history.
Junior Dillon Leacock, freshman Joshua Sims-Waddy, freshman Nicholas Byrd and junior Trey East III ran a season-best 3:06.07 in the 4x400-meter relay. The relay team is now 10th on Houston's all-time list.

- Houston will conclude action on the women's side as junior Miracle Thompson competes in the 100-meter hurdles at 6:15 p.m.
- Freshman Michaela Mouton will compete in two individual events on Saturday in the 400-meter at 6:50 p.m. and then the 200-meter at 7:50 p.m.
- Graduate Kelly-Ann Beckford will look to punch her ticket as she competes in the 800-meter at 7:05 p.m.
- Graduate Sydni Townsend will close out individual event action as she competes at 7:25 p.m. in the 400-meter hurdles.
- Houston's 4x400-meter relay of senior Iman Babineaux, Beckford, Townsend and Mouton will wrap up the evening at 8:45 p.m.
