Houston Women Secure Four Qualifications on Final Day at NCAA West Preliminary Round

Cougars qualify for 11 events at the NCAA Championships from June 5-8 in Eugene, Ore.
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Graduate Sydni Townsend, senior Iman Babineaux, graduate Kelly-Ann Beckford and freshman Michaela Mouton earned Houston Track & Field's final four qualifications to the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships as they closed out action on Saturday at the NCAA West Preliminary Round on the campus of the University of Arkansas.
Freshman standout Michaela Mouton secured the first ticket on the women's side as she extended her school record in the 400-meter with her time of 50.96.
Beckford assured her spot at her final NCAA Championships as she qualified in the 800-meter with her time of 2:03.99 to win her heat.
After she improved her school record in the 400-meter, Mouton ran in her second individual event of the day, where she posted a personal best time in the 200-meter at 23.06. The freshman now ranks sixth overall in Houston's all-time list.
Townsend qualified for her third NCAA Outdoor Championships as she posted a mark of 55.80 in the 400-meter hurdles. Townsend earned the automatic qualification with a second-place finish in her heat and was fourth overall.
Houston's 4x400-meter relay of Babineaux, Townsend, Beckford and Mouton sealed the final qualification for the Cougars as the team won its heat with a time of 3:28.14.

Townsend, Babineaux, Beckford and Mouton will head to the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Ore., June 5-8 alongside senior Christyan Sampy (pole vault), freshman Antrea Mita (high jump), senior David Ajama (triple jump), senior De'Vion Wilson (110-meter hurdles), sophomore Louie Hinchliffe (100-meter dash, 4x100-meter relay), senior Shaun Maswanganyi (100-meter, 200-meter and 4x100-meter relay), senior Ireon Brown (4x100-meter relay) and freshman Cayden Broadnax (4x100-meter relay).
