PREVIEW: Women’s Golf Tees Off at The Match Play at Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club

Two-day event begins Monday morning in Norman, Okla.
NORMAN, Okla. – For the first time in program history, the University of Houston Women's Golf program will compete in match play when it tees off at The Match Play at Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club, starting Monday morning.Teams will play 18 holes of stroke play to determine seeding for match play beginning with an 8 a.m., Monday, shotgun start on the 6,448-yard, par-72 course at Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club.
Once seeding is finalized, teams will compete in the Match Play First Round around 1:30 p.m., Monday.
Match Play Second Round begins with an 8 a.m., split-tee start at 8 a.m., Tuesday with the Final Round starting around 1:30 p.m., Tuesday.
In their most recent action, the Cougars fired three straight team rounds of par or better and finished third at the MountainView Collegiate at The Preserve Golf Club in Tucson, Ariz., on March 15-17.
The Match Play at Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club will be the Cougars' final regular-season event of the season.

MEET the COUGARSUnder the direction of Carolyn Macow Leatherwood Head Coach Lydia Gumm, the Cougars will be represented by sophomore Moa Svedenskiold, freshman Maelynn Kim, junior Hyeonji Kang, sophomore Alexa Saldana and senior Nicole Abelar.
Svedenskiold leads the Cougars with a 71.43 scoring average, 16 rounds of par or better, including eight in the 60s, and three Top-10 finishes. The Halmstad, Sweden, fired a 3-under 213 and tied with Kim for team-high honors in 11th place at the MountainView Collegiate.
Kang is a close second with a 71.88 average and 14 rounds of par or lower. The Jeju, South Korea, native opened The Chevron Collegiate with a school-record 64 to tie for 17th at 7-under 209 on Feb. 26-27 and posted back-to-back sub-par rounds at The Show to tie for 14th at 218 on March 4-5.
Saldana is third among the Cougars with a 72.04 average and 13 rounds of par or lower.
TEAM FIELD
Houston will compete in an eight-team field featuring Kansas State, North Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, Tulane and Tulsa.

For Monday's stroke play, Abelar will start in the first group off No. 1 with Saldana (second group off No. 1), Svedenskiold (No. 17), Kang (first group off No. 18) and Kim (second group off No. 18) following.

Following The Match Play at Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club in Norman, Okla., Houston takes its first steps in the postseason when its tees off at the Big 12 Championships, set for April 18-20 at The Clubs at Houston Oaks in Hockley, Texas.
The winner of the league's annual postseason event receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals to be held at one of six sites across the country on May 6-8.
Those NCAA Regional sites include Auburn University Club (Auburn, Ala., hosted by Auburn); Tumble Creek Club (Cle Elum, Wash., hosted by Washington); Traditions Club (Bryan-College Station, Texas., hosted by Texas A&M); Forest Akers Golf Course (East Lansing, Mich., hosted by Michigan State); Spanish Trail Country Club (Las Vegas, Nev., hosted by UNLV) and East Course – Bermuda Run Country Club (Winston-Salem, N.C., hosted by Wake Forest).
