Cougars Win 10 Events at Cameron Burrell Alumni Invitational

Houston collects 26 podium finishes on Saturday
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Track & Field program won 10 events and picked up a total of 16 second and third place finishes at the second-annual Cameron Burrell Alumni Invitational at the Carl Lewis International Complex on Saturday.

RUNNING EVENTS
Graduate Halena Rahmaan kicked things off for the Cougars on the track as she set a meet record in the 1500-meter with 4:33.95 to place first. Graduate Claire Meyer followed in second at 4:39.48, and junior Erin Rivera completed the sweep at 4:49.60.

Senior hurdler De'Vion Wilson made his outdoor season debut as he won the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 13.62, for the 19th fastest time in the nation. Freshman Logan Lyght placed third at 14.02.

Freshman Michaela Mouton won her third 400-meter race of the season as she sprinted to the finish line at 52.76 and has the 18th-fastest time in the nation. Senior Iman Babineaux followed in second with her time of 53.21. On the men's side, freshman Joshua Sims-Waddy posted a 47.71 to place second.

The Cougars swept the top spot in the men's and women's 400-meter hurdles. Sophomore Paris Baker won the women's event at 1:04.19, and junior Nakoah Witt recorded a 53.30 on the men's side.

Senior sprinter Shaun Maswanganyi made his home season debut as he placed second in the 200-meter with a time of 20.55, the 16th fastest time in the nation. Freshman Cayden Broadnax earned his first collegiate podium finish in the men's 100-meter at 10.28 for second place. Maswanganyi and Broadnax also competed in the men's 4x100-meter relay, where the group placed second with a time of 39.54.

Senior Linesha Thompson earned her first podium finish of the outdoor season with her performance in the women's 100-meter dash. Thompson crossed the finish line at 11.85 for third place.

In the men's 800-meter, freshman Aaron Crittenden crossed the finish line at 1:52.94 for second place. Graduate MiKenna Robinson placed third in the women's 800-meter at 2:19.64.

The men's and women's 4x400-meter relay teams concluded the running evening for the Cougars with two first-place finishes as the women's team of Miracle Thompson, Linesha Thompson, Tia Outlaw and Ali Mack ran a 3:56.64, while the men's team of Nicholas Byrd, Sims-Waddy, Dillon Leacock and Witt recorded a time of 3:19.96.

FIELD EVENTS
Senior Caleb Malbrough leaped a 7.56m in the men's long jump to win the event for the 15th-best distance in the nation. On the women's side, freshman Genesis Griffin placed third with her jump of 5.80m.

Senior David Ajama remains undefeated at home in the triple jump as he leaped a 15.47m to win the event.

In the throws, the Cougars picked up two silvers and one bronze. Graduate Ethan Marshall placed second in the men's hammer throw with his throw of 63.79m and freshman Cordell Nwokeji earned second in the shot put at 18.26m. Senior Ayomide Ogunbunmi scored 49.78m in the men's javelin for third place. Â Â

Freshman Laney Kucera recorded a vault of 3.80m for third in the women's pole vault, while senior Christyan Sampy picked up the final win for the Cougars with 5.31m as he set a meet record in the men's pole vault.

The Cougars will split squads as it sends a group to the Bryan Clay Invitational, running Thursday through Saturday in Azusa, Calif.

Houston will also compete at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational scheduled for Friday and Saturday in Gainesville, Fla.
