Women’s 4x400-Meter Relay Sets School Record at Penn Relays on Friday

Cougars to compete in four finals on Saturday, continue action at Texas Invitational
PHILADELPHIA, Pa., and AUSTIN, Texas – The University of Houston Women's 4x400-meter relay set a school record, and the Cougars qualified for four finals and earned two second-place finishes at Penn Relays and the Texas Invitational on Friday.
PENN RELAYS
At Penn Relays, the women's 4x400-meter relay of graduate Sydni Townsend, senior Iman Babineaux, graduate Kelly-Ann Beckford and freshman Michaela Mouton grabbed the top qualifying spot in the Championship of America section. Their time of 3:27.83 set a school record, a mark the group previously set this season at Texas Relays (March 27). This mark is the ninth fastest in meet history and is currently the fourth fastest time in the nation.
The men's 4x200-meter relay of senior Davonte Burnett, senior Ireon Brown, freshman Cayden Broadnax and senior Shaun Maswanganyi finished second in the Championship of America section with a time of 1:22.42.
Burnett, Broadnax and Maswanganyi also competed along sophomore Louie Hinchliffe to win their heat and qualify for Saturday's final in the 4x100-meter relay Championship of America with a time of 39.98.
Two Cougars earned spots in Saturday's 100-meter final as Hinchliffe won his heat and finished second overall with a time of 10.37. Maswanganyi also won his 100-meter heat, crossing the line at 10.40 to qualify for finals.
Senior De'Vion Wilson sealed his spot for finals in the 110-meter hurdles as he won his heat with a time of 13.61, while also hurdling his way to the second fastest time in the event.
TEXAS INVITATIONAL
Senior Lusekelo Mwamukonda grabbed second in the discus at the Texas Invitational with his personal-best throw of 55.46 (181'-11) meters. This marks Mwamukonda's second podium this outdoor season,
Freshman Cordell Nwokeji had a personal-best throw in the discus with his sixth-place mark of 51.44 (168'-9) meters.
In the women's pole vault, sophomore vaulter Aubrey Tupper tied for fourth in the pole vault with her personal-best height clearance of 3.85 (12'-7.5) meters.
