Cougars on pace for home run record, Arbolida joins double-digit home run club
Houston (21-21) hit five home runs for the first time since March 24, 2023 against UT Arlington off four different Cougar bats. Right fielder Cary Arbolida notched his second two-homer game of the season and second baseman Harold Coll hit his team-leading 11th home run of the year.
The Cougars pounced on the Mavericks in the first two innings, scoring four runs in the early frames with Arbolida hitting his first home run in the first inning.
Center fielder Tre Jones and designated hitter Kenneth Jimenez hit back-to-back home runs in the fifth inning, both solo shots.
Arbolida hit his second home run in the sixth inning to give Houston a 13-2 lead. The senior's 10th home run of the season increased the Cougars homer total 62, putting them on pace to tie the school record 83 home runs set in 1986.
Right-handed starter Cade Citelli (3-1) earned the win after pitching 5.0 innings for the second-straight outing. Citelli struck out four batters and walked one.
UT Arlington (17-25) scored five runs late in the seventh and eighth innings to make it a six-run game, but Houston poured on four more runs in the bottom of the eighth to make it a 10-run game for the second time.
All nine from the starting lineup recorded a hit, while eight of the nine also recorded RBI. First baseman Justin Murray, Jimenez and Coll all had three-hit games, while third baseman Anthony Tulimero, Arbolida and Jones pocketed multi-hit games.
