Cougars give up eight runs in ninth letting a three-run lead evaporate
Texas (22-15, 9-6 Big 12) hit back-to back home runs in the ninth inning to tie and take the lead and then continued their assault with a second two-run home run to give the Longhorns an 11-8 lead. Texas' seventh hit of the inning brought in its 12th run of the game. The Longhorns' eighth hit of the inning scored their eighth run.
Houston (17-18, 5-13 Big 12) took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the third inning on a three-run blast by second baseman Harold Coll. Houston scored in the next two innings to grow its lead to 7-2 after five.
A sacrifice fly from third baseman Anthony Tulimero brought in Houston's fourth run and then Coll singled to bring in the Cougars fifth run – both in the fourth inning.
Center fielder Cameron Nickens hit his second home run of the season in the fifth inning, a two-run blast to left center field to make it 7-2.
Texas scraped together a run in the seventh and two runs in the eighth to make it 7-5 before left fielder Ace Reese hit a solo home run to give the Cougars what seemed to be an insurance run in the bottom half of the frame.

Houston will host a pair of midweek games on Tuesday and Wednesday at Schroeder Park with Tuesday's game against Houston Christian starting at 6:30 p.m. and Wednesday's game against Southern also at 6:30 p.m. Both games will air on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.
