PREVIEW: Eight Head to Boston for NCAA Indoor Championships

Cougars will compete in seven events for national hardware
BOSTON – The University of Houston Track and Field program will send eight student-athletes to the 2024 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, beginning Friday at The Track at New Balance in Boston.

The Cougars set seven top-16 marks in the nation to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships. Houston's men's track and field is currently ranked No. 10 by the USTFCCCA heading into Boston.

On the men's side, Houston will begin competition at 8:30 a.m. CT, with junior Grant Levesque competing in the heptathlon. Senior Christyan Sampy will open finals action for the Cougars in the pole vault at 1 p.m. CT.

Senior Shaun Maswanganyi will run the first of his two events at 3:18 p.m. CT in the 60-meter semifinal and the 200-meter semifinal at 4:40 p.m. CT. Senior De'Vion Wilson will compete in the 60-meter hurdles at 4:05 p.m. CT.

On the women's side, graduate Kelly-Ann Beckford will run in the prelims at 800-meter at 6:50 p.m. CT Friday and will compete alongside graduate Sydni Townsend, senior Iman Babineaux and freshman Michaela Mouton in the 4x400-meter relay on Saturday at 7:20 p.m. CT.

Houston won four conference titles and broke three meet records at the Big 12 indoor Championships. Levesque, Wilson, Beckford and the women's 4x400-meter relay all earned conference gold.

Three meet records were broken at the Big 12 Championship as Levesque recorded 6,068 points in the heptathlon, Beckford crossed the finish line of the 800-meter with a time of 2:00.65 and the 4x400-meter relay finished with a time of 3:29.86.

Wilson won the 60-meter hurdles, Maswanganyi finished second in the 60-meter and 200-meter and Sampy finished second in the pole vault.
