PREVIEW: Track and Field Heads to Rice for Victor Lopez Classic

Cougars stay in town as they compete at Rice following seven first places in outdoor opener
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Track and Field program will attend its first away meet of the outdoor season as it travels to Rice for the Victor Lopez Classic at the Wendel D. Ley Track, beginning Friday.
Last season, Houston won six events and set 23 personal bests at the 2023 Victor Lopez Classic.
LAST TIME OUT
Last weekend, the Cougars competed at two meets, the Kirk Baptiste Spring Break Invitational and the TSU Relays.
Freshmen Aaron Crittenden and Michaela Mouton finished first and set meet records in their events. Crittenden ran the 800-meter in 1:50.36, while Mouton finished with 23.20 in the 200-meter for the seventh-best time in program history.
In the field events, six Cougars finished in first place, with three landing on the top performance list. Graduate Ethan Marshall threw a personal best 64.94 (213'-1) meters in the weight throw to put him at No. 2 in school history.
Freshman Paris Kimble claimed her first outdoor collegiate title in the javelin throw with 39.96 (131'-1) meters to land fifth in school history.
Graduate Izac Canchola made his Houston debut in the javelin throw with a personal best throw of 70.08 (229'-11) meters and is now third in school history.
At TSU, the men's 4x200-meter relay of Nicholas Byrd, King Micah Scales, Joshua Sims-Waddy and Trey East III claimed first at 1:24.48.
